Noise to Signal is a group blog about the media, run by a group of friends. First launched in September 2005, the site covers a wide range of subject matter.
By the start of 2006, it was clear that the original design for the site was not working as well as had been hoped. The decision was made to stick to the same blogging software that had been used previously, Movable Type, and simply give the look of the site a major overhaul.
Originally, blog entires, articles and reviews were in separate sections of the front page - all of these were brought together in one list for a cleaner look, with icons distinguishing the meatier content from smaller blog posts. A new navigation mechanism was added at the top to allow users to navigate content via the media type; as the site covers such a wide range of topics and is updated daily, this was a valuable addition.
The change was extraordinary. Once launched, visitors and active commenters bloomed; the site is now well-established, especially for its comic reviews.
